The Stream Alert Tip Page: A UPI Donation Link That Works When Your Phone Is Off (2026)
A public tip page at streamalert.in/tip/yourname that takes UPI donations, drops the money straight into your own account, and fires an on-stream alert - even when your phone is nowhere near you. Here is exactly how I built it and how to set it up.
TL;DR
- The Tip Page is your own shareable link (streamalert.in/tip/yourname) plus a QR you can put on stream.
- Supporters pay by UPI and the money lands in your own merchant account. We never hold it.
- Tips are server-detected, so an alert fires even if your phone is off or on silent.
- It is a Premium feature, and it takes one connected gateway to switch on.

What the Tip Page actually is
The Tip Page is a public page that lives at streamalert.in/yourname. A supporter opens it, types an amount and a name, taps pay, and finishes the payment in their own UPI app. That is the whole thing from their side. From your side, a donation alert pops up on your stream a few seconds later.
I want to be honest about why this page exists at all, because most alert tools already let people pay you directly. The reason is friction. A viewer who has to screenshot your UPI ID, open Google Pay, paste it, add a note, and hope you notice is a viewer who often just does not bother. A link and a QR remove every one of those steps. The easier you make it to give, the more people give. That is not a growth-hack, it is just how attention works during a live stream.
Why it works with your phone off
This was the one rule I refused to break while building the page: a donation link that needs your phone awake is not a donation link, it is a liability. Phones die mid-stream. Notifications get throttled. You put the device on silent because the buzzing bleeds into your mic. If your alerts depend on that phone, all of those normal things quietly cost you donations.
So the Tip Page does not read your phone at all. When you connect a merchant gateway (Paytm for Business, PhonePe for Business, or HDFC SmartHub), our server watches that merchant account for the incoming payment and fires the alert itself. The tip is confirmed on the server, not on your handset. You can leave your phone in another room and the alert still lands. I will not pretend this is magic; it is a boring, reliable design decision, and boring and reliable is exactly what you want holding your income.
Your money stays yours
Here is the part I care about most, and the part a lot of platforms quietly get wrong. When someone tips you through the Stream Alert Tip Page, the money goes into your merchant account. It does not pass through us. There is no wallet you have to top up, no weekly payout you wait on, no balance we hold and release on our schedule.
A platform that holds your donations and pays you later is a platform you have to trust with your rent. I did not want to be that platform, and you should be wary of any that ask you to be. Self-custody is not a feature I am proud of so much as a line I was not willing to cross. Your supporters pay you. We just make the moment visible on your stream.
Setting it up
The link and the QR are free to generate. What actually powers the payments is a connected merchant gateway, and you only need one. Connect whichever business account you already use and the page goes live.
- Open the Tip Page section in your Stream Alert dashboard and copy your link.
- Under Merchant Gateways, connect one account (Paytm Business, PhonePe Business, or HDFC SmartHub). One is enough; you do not need all of them.
- Share the link in your bio, your panels, and your chat, and add the QR to your overlay.
I will not oversell the gateway step. Connecting a business account is the least fun part of the whole thing, because it is the part banks and payment providers control, not us. Budget ten focused minutes for it once, and then never think about it again. If you do not have a business account yet, that is a real prerequisite worth sorting out anyway, because personal accounts taking donation volume are the ones that get frozen.
The QR code on stream
Every Tip Page comes with a QR that encodes your link with the Stream Alert logo in the middle. Put it on a panel, a starting-soon screen, or a corner of your overlay, and a viewer can go from watching to paying without ever typing a thing. You can download it as a high-resolution PNG and drop it straight into OBS.
It sounds like a small feature. It is not. A QR on screen is a standing invitation that never gets tired of asking, and it converts the exact moment someone feels like giving, which is usually a moment that passes in seconds.
FAQ
Does the money ever touch Stream Alert?
No. Tips go straight into your connected merchant account. We detect the payment to fire the alert; we do not hold or route the funds.
Do I need my phone on for tips to work?
No. Tip Page donations are detected on our server through your merchant gateway, so alerts fire even with your phone off or silent.
How many gateways do I need?
One. Connect whichever business account you already use and the Tip Page is live.
Is the Tip Page free?
The Tip Page is a Premium feature. The link and QR generate instantly once you are on Premium and have a gateway connected.
Once your tip page is live, two more reads help: how to price each donation type so the loud stuff stays special, and how to put your QR on stream so viewers can actually find it.
